Give recycling the green light

The Light prides itself on its green business practices and continually seeks out new environmental initiatives that are aimed at helping to lower its carbon footprint. The Light is currently working with the Carbon Trust to try and identify ways in which it can improve its energy efficiency and further reduce its carbon emissions. In the last 7 months alone 352 tonnes of waste has been recycled. This accounts for 86% of recyclable waste.

In 2008 we reduced the annual weight of Light Style magazine from 14820kg to 1995kg saving 12,825 kilograms of paper (86.54%). If you were to lay down each page of the magazine that has been removed it would stretch 300 miles in distance.

In a bid to become greener all our new marketing collateral is produced on 100% recycled paper and within the centre we now provide customers with recycled pens

Caring for the community

The Light is about to introduce its very own must-have reusable shopping bag, which will be available from most of the centre’s retailers and in the Customer Service Suite from the end of August 2008. The bag costs just £2 and all of the proceeds will go towards the care of the animals at Meanwood Urban Valley Farm.

Did you know? In the last 7 months The Light has recycled 352 tonnes of waste, that’s the equivalent of 44 double decker buses! *one bus equals 8 tonnes Did you know? If we laid all the paper we have saved from Light Style magazine in 2008 end to end it would reach from The Light to Penzance!
